Gary I. Fields
Mr. Fields has practiced law for more than two decades, focusing on health care and corporate law. His practice includes transactional and regulatory matters for businesses, physician practices, public and privately held health care companies, and medical systems. He advises these clients regarding joint ventures, the acquisition and disposition of businesses and professional health care practices, managed care contracting and reimbursement issues, employment agreements and other employment issues, equipment acquisitions and financing, health care regulation, including fraud and abuse concerns, corporate compliance, corporate finance and financial workouts.
Mr. Fields has lectured and written nationally on health law issues, including federal and state health care fraud and abuse regulation, corporate compliance programs, health information and technologies and integrated delivery systems. Mr. Fields co-chaired a conference entitled "Health Information and Technology: New Requirements and Risks" for the New York State Bar Association. Mr. Fields has also chaired and lectured at numerous seminars sponsored by Medicare Compliance Alert, Aspen Publications and the Medical Society of the State of New York. He is a member of the State Bar of California, the New York State Bar Association and its Health Law Section (serving on managed care and health care provider subcommittees), and the American Health Lawyers Association.
Prior to forming his own law practice twelve years ago, Mr. Fields served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of a publicly traded company, Medical Resources, Inc., which operated nearly 100 diagnostic imaging offices in the United States. Earlier, Mr. Fields headed the Health Law Group at an eighty-attorney New York City law firm, Gordon Altman Butowsky Weitzen Shalov & Wein. Before joining Gordon Altman, Mr. Fields was a member of the Health Law Group in the New York City offices of Proskauer Rose, LLP and an associate at the health care law firm, Garfunkel, Wild & Travis, P.C. in Great Neck, New York.
Gary Fields has served as an arbitrator and has been trained in arbitration through the American Health Lawyers Association. Mr. Fields has also served as an expert witness on healthcare related cases.
Prior to the practice of law, Mr. Fields was a policy analyst with the automobile emission and fuel economy program at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C., where he analyzed the economic impact of federal automobile regulations and reviewed alternative strategies for improving air quality. Mr. Fields served on a White House Auto Task Force.
Mr. Fields received his J.D. with honors from the National Law Center at George Washington University, an M.A. with a concentration in Public Policy from Michigan State University, an A.B. with distinction from the University of Rochester, and he was a C.I.C. Visiting Scholar at The Institute for Public Policies Studies at the University of Michigan.
Mr. Fields is admitted to practice law in New York and California.
